Aerial view of U. S. 19 at Main Street in New Port Richey. This photo, taken circa 1961, shows exactly how fast things moved along our current US19, and how desirable New Port Richey had become. In this period, many subdivisions were created in the northern/western part of this immediate area. On the west side of US19, to the north, you will see "Summer and Sons," a business that sold and repaired Mobile Homes. You can see "Bargain Outlet" sharing a building with "C and V Motors...Auto Sales and Service", which now constitutes Caldwell Banker, F.I. Grey Realty. Still with us is the Standard Oil filling Station, complete with a "Car Wash" and "Lubrication". Owing to the lack of paved roads in this area, that was sure to be a popular place to do business. To the bottom of this photograph can be seen the start of West Main Street. No doubt the trailer is part of some Land Sales office, and on this site today is Burger King. The old home on Bridge Street is there, built circa 1945. Today this is the site of River Bend Mobile Home Park. The building to the East (on Main Street) of Standard Oil, is F. I. Grey and Sons Realty. Next, along the north side of Main Street, is Tonnies, a Feed, novelty, and Flower store, and still further East, the white large building in the upper right of the photograph, which currently stands at the corner of River Road and Main, are the offices of J. N. Stewart, Attorney. The short white building on the right edge of the photograph, on Main Street, where the hearse is parked in the driveway, is that of Duval Funeral Home. It is now the Law Offices of Waller, Mitchell and Barnett. Photo by Angelo Decicucies. Caption in 2005 by David A. Henry.
