This photograph appeared in the New Port Richey Press on July 15, 1952, with the caption: "John Peters, proprietor of the Pastry Shop, had the honor of being the first depositor at the opening of Gulf State Bank here on Tuesday. He brought cigar boxes and bags which contained $85 in pennies and $65 in silver coin. Other depositors in the line brought the day's total up to $95,000. Cashier R. A. Cooper beams as the successful opening day's business gets under way."
