| The top photo is a birdseye view of Jasmine Lakes in 1961. The bottom picture was created in 2008 by Christina Nasca using Google Earth. Jasmine Lakes Development Corporation began operations on 3/2/1960. Pictured is Unit One, which was accessed by way of Bougenville Drive from U. S. 19. Shown here are homes being built on Azalea, Agate, Camelia, Addison, and Arbitus Drive. Clearing for Unit Two was underway, as can be seen in the upper left of this photo. The road to the upper right veering southeast was to become Cherry Laurel Drive. The paved road at the extreme lower right corner of the picture is U. S. 19, and just above is an unpaved Devco Drive. This property along the highway is the current location of what used to be the Drivers License office. In 1974, the Peninsular Motor Club, Inc., purchased a portion of this land, and it is the current location of AAA Auto Club South. [Caption by David A. Henry] |
