| Elfers had a depot built by the Seaboard Air Line. The line began in 1909 as the old Tampa and Gulf, known locally as the "tug and grunt." The building was a standard small wood design. It has been used as a lumber company office. (Photo and caption from Stevens, R. Randolph. "The railroad depot: A photo essay." Tampa Bay History 6/1, Spring/Summer 1984.) According to another book, the depot was built in 1912, railroad service ceased in 1972, and the building came down in 1985. |
