Freeman Leach (1841-1922), one of the earliest settlers in Port Richey. This photo appeared in a 1915 Port Richey Company brochure with the caption, “Freeman Leach, who lives on the river near New Port Richey, is fond of gardening as well as fishing. The expression on his face shows what outdoor life and Florida sunshine will do for a man.” A 1916 Port Richey Co. advertisement said that he came here five years ago, intending to spend the winter, but remained ever since. He was from Massachusetts. His wife Minerva died in 1917. A son, Rev. Floyd S. Leach, was the pastor of St. Thomas Church in New York City in 1922. Photo courtesy of Henry Fletcher.
