| Land buyers in Port Richey. This photo appeared in a 1915 Port Richey Co. brochure with the caption, “A party of Michigan visitors at New Port richey in January. Note the light dresses and absence of overcoats. January in Florida is like June in Michigan.” Ralph Bellwood wrote the following about this picture: “Today we present a group of land buyers from Michigan who spent a week or more as guests of the Port Richey Company looking over the area. Many of whom purchased acreage that they later developed for agricultural purposes. The group posed for the picture on the south side of Orange Lake which formed the background for the picture. Only one house is visible in the upper right corner of the picture. Beyond the lake is uncleared land. On the back of the picture post card, the postmark is Port Richey, dated Jan. 14, 1915. It was addressed to F. W. Knapp, St. Johns, Mich., and signed by Ellen, his sister-in-law, who was Mrs. Gerben DeVries.” Photo courtesy of the New Port Richey Public Library. |
