Walter Andrew Casson, Sr. (1907-1954), the second son of Asher C. Casson and Anna M. Casson, was a land surveyor. He began his career in surveying with M. A. Fullington, for many years the City Engineer of New Port Richey. In 1931 Walter took a position as a surveyor with the State Road Department (now know as the Florida Department of Transportation). Walter was transferred to the Jacksonville area where he met Alice Selph Coney and they were married in 1933. During World War II he worked in construction at the Jacksonville Naval Air Base as a construction superintendent. Toward the end of the war he moved back to the Casson family home in New Port Richey with his wife and three children. After a period of time working in the homebuilding industry, he was again employed as a land surveyor by his mentor, M. A. Fullington. In 1949 he purchased the Fullington surveying records and equipment and began his own surveying business. In 1951 he purchased the surveying records of Victor M. Clark from the Clark family. Walter became quite active in the community. At the time of his death in 1954 he was Secretary of First Baptist Church of New Port Richey, Chairman of the County Selective Service Board, a trustee of the Pasco County School Board, and a charter member of the local Lions Club. Walter and Alice had four children: Walter A. Casson, Jr., Alice Gail Casson Foster, Charles Peck Casson, and Judith Kaye Casson Sanchez. (1953 photo courtesy of Walt Casson)
