The Gospel Church was organized Feb. 23, 1955, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hall, with 19 members present. Services were held at the American Legion Hall at the corner of Adams and Main streets in New Port Richey until the church was built. Dr. E. C. Bragg served as the first pastor. In November 1955, Rev. Rex Lilly was called to pastor. In March 1956, the cornerstone was laid at the new church building at the corner of Jefferson St. and Ohio Ave. Dedication services were held for the new building on Nov. 4, 1956. In 1961 Rev. Lilly resigned and Dr. Bragg served as supply. In 1962 Rev. Willard Lichtenwalner was called and pastored one year. In 1963 Rev. Robert McAlister was called for one year. In 1964-65 Dr. Bragg supplied until Dr. Earl Collins came to serve as interim pastor for about 9 months. In March 1966, Dr. Collins was called as pastor. This church was later known as Jefferson Street Baptist Church.
